The CJHS 8th Grade Arrow Football Team gave everybody reason to be excited about the 2011 season tonight. The Jamboree at NWR featured two games for the Arrows. Each game consisted of 10 plays from the 40 yard line. Coaches were allowed on the field for the exhibition in an attempt to "fine-tune" the respective offensive and defensive teams.
In the first game, the Arrows defeated Pearl, scoring two touchdowns to Pearl's one. In perhaps the most telling part of the victory, the first string defense held Pearl's first string offense to roughly 20 yards after the first 10 plays. And of the two TDs afterwards by the Arrows, one was a deep pass from Rachad "Rock" Taylor to a wide open Ezekiel Thurman.
In the second game versus a very big Madison Central Jaguar team, it was the running game that put the Arrows in the endzone. And, it was the last play of the entire game that featured the TD to beat the Jags.
The ride home on the CHS bus was probably made a lot better not only by the fact that we came away with two victories, but also because EVERY ARROW played in the games. Some, in fact, played both offense and defense.
The 8th grade Arrows resume practice tomorrow in pads to work harder on improving their game. This is going to be a special season, and you can help in two ways:
1. Join the Arrow Booster Club. It's $20 and the money goes to drinks and such for the team. You can join at the Ice Cream Social hosted by the CJHS Cheerleaders on Thursday at 5:30pm.
2. Follow this blog and COME TO THE GAMES! We will ask the parents to wear a particular color for each game to make our presence easily seen to the guys. Be a part of this family and you will remember it forever!
