The CJHS Arrows suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday, narrowly losing to rival host Madison Central 21-18. For the Arrows, it was their first loss of the year, including pre-season scrimmages.
After a turnover on the first Arrow possession, MC found the end zone on a 6-yard run. The extra point made the score 7-0. CJHS answered right away when Rachad Taylor set the Arrows up with a 61 yard run. On the ensuing play, Darius Mayberry took it untouched into the end zone. The extra point was wide right and the score was MC 7-6.
The Arrow defense held the Jaguars on their next possession, stopping them inside our 15 yard line. After a penalty on CJHS, Taylor made runs of 38 and 44 yards, the later scoring to take the lead. The two point conversion failed and the Arrows took a halftime lead of 12-7.
The third quarter saw MC score on a 33 yard TD run. Later, with the score still 14-12, the Arrows committed their second turnover at their own 25, resulting plays later in a Jag 16 yard TD run. The extra point was good and the score was 21-12.
On the ensuing kickoff, Madison Central tried an onside kick which was recovered by CJHS Arrow Ronnie Brown. After two hard runs by Mayberry, the Arrows moved to the fourth quarter. Taylor then found Armani Lewis on a slant pass to the right that gained 35 yards down to the 3. A few plays later, Taylor found Mayberry on a swing pass to the left to make the score 21-18. The two-point conversion was no good and the game ended on the next Madison Central possession.
The Arrows now get to play their next three of four games at Clinton High School. The next game is against Pearl at CHS and kickoff is set for 5:00.
