This Tuesday saw the Arrows get back on the winning track when Clinton played host to Pearl in a rematch of the NWR Jamboree game. They wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. In the first quarter, Rachad Taylor put up his first TD with a 58 yard run. After the 2 point conversion to Jacobi Hearn, the score was 8-0. Immediately afterwards, Michael Brown picked off a Pearl pass and then Taylor exposed the Pirate defense with a 42 yard run to the 4. Darius Mayberry took it in for a 12 yard TD, and the extra point made it a 15-0 game.
The second quarter started off with a Pearl fumble deep in their territory that was recovered by Brown but wasn’t awarded, later resulting in a Pirate TD. Their extra point was stuffed at the goal line by Brown, Jaryne McNeil and Ty Irwin. But the Arrows kept up the momentum immediately afterwards with a 51-yard TD run by Deion Lacey and a 47-yard TD run by Taylor. With 8.7 seconds in the half, Pearl put up another TD to make it 27-12.
The second half started with another Pearl TD, but then the Arrows stepped up already great defense with a fumble recovery by Gideon Pierce. A Michael Brown kick return of 66 yards set up a 4-yard Taylor TD and the Arrows sealed a 35-18 victory. The CJHS team is now 3-1 and has only three games left in the 2011 season.
